How to prepare the margarita cocktail?

What could be the perfect ending to a dinner of Mexican tacos in Madrid? What drink to pair with the most traditional Mexican food? Yes, you guessed it, we’re talking about the Margarita cocktail.

This cocktail, made with tequila, triple sec and lime juice, is one of the basic cocktails for any bartender. The thing is that it is not so easy to give the right touch to a Margarita.

That’s why in this article we want to show you how to make them and what the secret is to preparing spectacular Margaritas.

The origin of the Margarita cocktail

As is often the case with cocktails, the origins of the Margarita cocktail are unclear. The most widespread belief is that it was created by Carlos ‘Anny’ Herrera in his restaurant between Tijuana and Rosarito.

Apparently, he would have done it to please former dancer Marjorie King, who only drank tequila. Others place his birthplace in Ensenada, Ciudad Juárez, El Paso or Acapulco.

What these theories do share is that this cocktail was devised to please a young woman named Margarita. Be that as it may, the first written reference to this popular cocktail dates back to 1953.

The secret of the preparation of the best Margarita cocktail

At Las Taquerias we insist that part of the secret of a good margarita lies in the quality of the tequila used in its preparation. The ideal is to choose a tequila reposado, although it can also be made with lesser distillates.

Cointreau, a well-known liqueur distilled from orange peel, can be used as a triple dry.

Although limes are essential in the original recipe, we can use lemons to prepare the margarita. The truth is that there is no fixed recipe.

The proportions vary depending on the source, but generally more tequila is added than triple sec and lime juice.

As with everything, it’s a matter of taste.
